World Health Day Celebrated by Indian Red Cross Society Udupi
District branch along with N S S and Youth Red cross Milagres
College Kallianpur in the Silver Jubilee Hall on 7\4\10. It was
preasided over by Principal Fr Fred Mascarenhas. Vice chairman of
Red Cross Dr Sharath welcomed the gathering and explained the
importance of World Health Day. Dr Ashwini kumar of Manipal
University inaugurated the programme and explained the objectives of
World Health Day given by WHO. 1000 cities 1000 stories is this
years theme. He said that due to stress and working enviornment more
urbal people face health problelms like obesity, diabities etc. He
also explained how global warming causes health hazards.
NSS programme officer proposed vote of thanks and prof. Vittal
Nayak compered. |

Eye check up and eye donation camp |
|
|
 |
|
|
Eye check up and eye donation camp was
organised by National Service Scheme Milagres College kallianpur,
Youth Red Cross and Rotary club Kallianpur on 30\3\10 in the Silver
Jubilee Hall of the College. It was presided over by the principal
Fr Fred Mascarenhas. Dr Aravinda Kini inaugurated and explained the
importance of eye donation. Dr Gerald PInto the NSS officer welcomed
the gathering. Prof Vittal Nayak explained importance of the camp.
Mr Vijaya mayadi the president of the Rotary club proposed the vote
of thanks. Kum Sindura compered the programme. 248 people checked
the eyes and 34 of them were given free eye glasses, others were
given free medicine. A few were adviced operation which will be done
freeof cost. 71 people registed for eye donation |

Red Ribbon Express Cultural Team programme

In association with Jilla Panchyat and
Kallianpur Panchyat cultural programme on AIDS awareness of Red
Ribbob Express was held in the Milagres College. Self help groups,
anganavadi workers and students from neighbouring schools
participated. |

Red Ribbon club exhibition: 300 student attended the aids awareness
exhibition under the leadership of nss. |

Club was held on 31\1\10 in the Silver Jubilee Hall. Mr Badanidiyur
Keshav Rao was the resource person. |

AIDS awareness Day was held on 5\2\10 by NSS and
Red Ribbon club. In the morning 20 students gave awareness in 20
classes. In the afternoon Jatha and Street play was held at Nejar
and Santhekatte. |

|
National Service Scheme Annual Special Camp of Mangalore University,
Milagres College Unit’s Annual Special camp was held at Govt First
Grade College, Tenkanidiur, Udupi Taluk, from 27\12\09 to 2\1\10. It
was inaugurated by Mr Dayanad Shetty local community leader and
social worker. Principal of the college Rev Fr Fred Mascarenhas
presided. Mr G Yoganada, principal of Tenkanidiur College
inaugurated shramadana .
Dr
Gananath Ekkar, the co-ordinator of Mangalore University N. S.S was
present as guest
Valedictory was held
on 2\1\07 and it was presided by Mr Pramod Madhwaraj, an
industrialist and social worker. He told the NSS volunteers that we
receive if we give. |

In seven days
student lavelled the play ground and prepared 200m track, prepared
cycle shed, cleaned saroundings, built a toilet for a poor family
and planted medicinal plants in the college garden. Students also
visited 5 cents houses and experienced their lives. They also
identified the persons who are denied various govt facilities .
They also visited a farm where where only organic agriculture is
done.
Local MLA Mr
Raghupathi Bhat, Sri Shirthadi William Pinto, Prof. Cyril Mathias,
Dr Shridhar Bayary, Dr Duggappa Kajekar, Dr Ashok. Prof. B
Mahalaxmi, have enlightened the students in social work,
personality development, Legal awreness, National integration, need
to protect Konkani and Tulu language and culture, good food habbits,
AIDs awareness and literature etc. Students were taught to live
community life. 84 students took part in this residential camp.
Dr Gerald Pinto and Smt Rajeshawri were the NSS officers ho directed
the camp. |

UNO celebrates October second, Gandhi
Jayathi as International non-violence day. N S S unit of Milagres
College celebrated 140th Gandi Jayathi and International
non-violence day on 2\10\09 in the Silver Jubilee Hall. principal Fr
Fred Mascarenhas presided. Mr Vijaya Mayadi the president of Rotary
club Kallianpur inaugurated the day and the seminar . Dr Neri
Carnelio was the chief guest.
NSS officers Dr Gerald Pinto and Prof. Rajeshwari were present.
Student leaders presented the papers on the topics:
Anu T: Role of Mahatma Gandhi in freedom movement.
Vasudha: Social Revolution by Mahatma Gandhi
Keerthi Shetty: principles of Mahatma Gandhi
Shubha: Economic Thininking of Mahatma Gandhi.
It was followed by leadership training. |
